Annie Lennox dropped from her record label

Annie Lennox was reportedly dropped by her record label, Sony BMG, recently. She noticed something was up when they wouldn’t return her calls or emails, just before her contract was due to expire.
She says the move is a “kick in the teeth”.
Lennox, 53, said she was shocked at the way she was treated by the company which once hailed her as “one of the finest musical voices of the age.”
“Probably a good thing I’m no longer with them – mild understatement. Unless it’s them trying to tell me something… Hello!”
The singer admitted she has been left contemplating her future in the music industry. She said that she feels like she’s spent, like she’s run out of energy. She also added that she is going to take her time over the coming months to figure out what to do with her freedom.

In a world where talent has to be found on American Idol’s 30 second audition, the music industry has officially lost it’s mind.

The music industry doesn’t count today. Annie is one of the best voices of her generation and here she is without a record deal. But don’t worry cuz one of those pathetic excuses for a singer/actor/porn star/worthless p.o.s will have a record deal and put out the worst crap ever and masquerade it as music. Blame it on American Society, this is how 99% of Americans want it, the proof is in the pudding people here are even too lazy to buy music anymore. And by buying music i DO NOT mean paying .99 for a song on I tunes or whatever people do these days. Its BEYOND insulting to musicians and artists.

That’s ridiculous. Someone else will snap her up right away though…if that’s what she wants. She is amazing, gorgeous, unbelievably talented…Sony needs to pull their heads out of their collective ass!

This is a baseless rumor that Annie herself has already refuted. Her contract with Sony/BMG ended after Songs of Mass Destruction. She now has the option to resign with them or go to another label. She was not dropped. The British tabloid that started this has printed a retraction today.

She is a fantastic singer, but I’ll bet Sony is dumping her for some younger talent, since she’s in her 50’s now. That’s not as appealing as a 20-some year old (money-wise, I mean.)

Annie WAS NOT dumped by Sony BMG. Her contract was simply up with the completion of the latest album. The quote attributed to her is in reference to the BMG office in South Africa which gave her no support when she performed there. She has posted about this on her MySpace blog.

Unbelievable. It’s sick, but we only have all celebs to blame in the end. They ALLOWED LABELS to get like this. They ALLOWED crumbs to be given in return for all the hard work and years and ‘wasting the pretty’.
Labels have always been this shafty except now they are out of jobs too and don’t have the money to pay music’s finest voice…The whole thing collapsed upon itself. Every one thought the sun shone out of a labels ass. Not true. They charge back to the artist even for a cup of coffee. It’s easy to live big on someone elses funds. That’s called Crazy making and I can see that Annie is having a hard time with such betrayal. She’s got to start living celeb free. Fame is man made.
