The question on everyone’s mind, “Why isn’t Casey in JAIL!?”

Jamie Lynn Spears’ pregnancy, at age 16, has raised legal questions because of Casey Aldridge’s age.
Aldridge is believed to be 18 or 19.
There is still no word on where the sexual intercourse took place.
However, if it happened in Spears’ home state of Louisiana, and if Aldridge was 19 at the time, he could be charged with what the state calls “felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile,” which is defined as “sexual intercourse with consent between someone age 19 or older and someone between age 12 and 17.”
If he was under 19, then he might be charged with a misdemeanor. Laws vary from state-to-state.
A spokeswoman for the local sheriff’s department in Kentwood, Louisiana, told Baton Rouge’s WAFB-TV that no complaint has been filed in the case and “no criminal investigation is currently underway.”

This is exactly what I was wondering about with my husband yesterday. Louisiana has VERY strict laws when it comes to this kind of thing. You can be 18 and have a 19 year old boyfriend and him get branded as a sex offender, for life, if someone files charges against him (at least, this is according to someone I know who worked in the Louisiana prison system for many years). There doesn’t have to be a big difference between the over age partner and the underage partner for jailtime to happen – there are many a sad case of young men having consensual sex with their teenage girlfriend (with a perfectly normal age difference) and getting sent to jail and branded as a sex offender for their lifetime. Their age difference is much different though (3 years), and I don’t know if a parent has to file charges for him to go to jail or if the state can just do it. He should be very VERY worried!

He shouldn’t be arrested! Some laws need to be changed. If they went to school they would be in the same school for a year or two. I know that some states are strict when it comes to this sort of thing, and kids with just a 2 year age gap do go to jail…sad circumstances. I’m totally not for statutary rape or any kind of sexual abuse, but they are both teenagers.

17 year old Genarlow Wilson got 10 years for oral sex (not even vaginal sex) from a girl who was 15-years. He spent two years behind bars before Georgia’s Supreme Court finally called his sentence obsessive.
If Casey Aldridge was black you know they would have arrested him by now.

So true, unequal justice!

he will only be arrested if she wants to press charges, duh!!! I once witnessed a knife fight between two “friends” and when the cops came, the victim said he didn’t want to press charges against his friend, so he wasn’t arrested.

Well said Unequal. There would be no trial if he was black, he’d already be in minimum security state prison.

I aggree Unequal! I was just bringing up that case to my Fiance. It is shocking how unfair the justice system can be. This whole situation sickens me all the way around

I have to agree, unequal, well said. I have been wondering the same thing. You know, money buys just about everything these days.

No he shouldnt be in jail..he’s only 2 0r 3 years older than her..its not like shes 12 or 14. They put themselves in a adult position, so they need to handle it like adults. People need to back off and leave them alone. Their handling enough stress as it is. If she wasnt famous, the whole world wouldnt be in her business. I’m not saying shes a role model for all the kids and teenagers b/c obviously she’s not, but its hard to have you’re on personal life without the whole world knowing everything.

In situations like this, it is generally the parents who have to press charges I think.
