Parenthood ended Kate Hudson’s marriage.
The birth of Kate Hudson and Chris Robinson’s three-year-old son Ryder left the former couple convinced their marriage needed help. The pair sealed the end of their seven-year union with a divorce in October, and now Hudson has revealed her son Ryder’s birth in January 2004 was the beginning of the end.
She says, “We had Ryder, and we both sort of looked at each other and went, ‘Something’s off.’”
But Hudson insists she and The Black Crowes rocker are still close, adding, “(Divorce was) the most difficult thing I’ve ever done in my life. The process of discovering with somebody that you love that you don’t… work is so painful. And thank goodness I did it with Chris… We helped each other through it.
“Now we’re both single and since the day we separated, we talk multiple times.”

Having a child destroys LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of marriages, please people like the divorce rate is 60% for no reason. Children have the ability to suck the life, romance and passion out of a marriage cuz after a child the only thing the woman cares about is the kid. Forget the husband cuz he is irrelevant, at least that’s what HUNDRADS of men have told me. These 2 seem to have no problems with each other and they are both active in Ryders life so at the end of the day that’s all that matters.

I understand what you are saying, Melissa. But, can’t blame the kid. If you truly love each other you will work at it. Marrage can be very hard at time.

Sorry, hit enter accidentally! Anyways, if you decide to have a child you should KNOW ahead of time (by researching, talking to parents, etc) that it will have a serious impact on your marriage and prepare for that. When you marry you say till death do us part, and while I think there are some very good reasons for divorce, this is most certainly not one of them.

I have to agree with Melissa, too. That’s why DH and I decided to be childfree-by-choice. We’ve been together for over ten years, and we’re told we still look and act like newly weds.
Have you heard of that saying? Once a woman becomes a mother, she ceases to be a wife. There’s some truth to that saying, IMHO.

Ummm…wow..this is really nuts-for one I really hope that her son doesn’t read this one day and think HE is the cause of his parents break up and two-DH and I have been married for 10 years and we have 2 children and we still have that same passion that was there from the start..Children do not ruin any sort of marriage. If the love is there then it is if it isn’t then don’t blame the kids

Contrary to some of the pronouncements of the childfree, marriages without children are more likely to end in divorce than those with them. This is true of most societies and cultures, from developed countries like the United States and Canada to Third World ones like Ethiopia and Thailand. Of course this doesn’t mean couples should have a child to save a cracking marriage - this is unfair to the child and ultimately to the couple themselves.
I remember reading a childfree board where a bunch of people were talking about how couples with children were more likely to divorce. Then this woman (childfree herself) chimed in saying that “unfortunately stats bear out that you’re less likely to split up if you have children.” Apparently her husband had left her for another woman. She said she loved the romantic notion spouted by some childfree advocates that couples without children are only together because they want to be (no obligations), but that it didn’t work in real life.
I felt sorry for her. It was obvious she had previously swallowed the childfree propaganda and was totally taken by shock when reality collided with romance.
