A baby name expert is weighing in on Bronx Mowgli, the newborn son of Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Pete Wentz.
“I’d say that in the world of unusual or bizarre baby names, this is the biggest double whammy since Moxie CrimeFighter [daughter of magician Penn Jillette] and Pilot Inspektor [son of actor Jason Lee],” Linda Rosenkrantz, co-author of The Baby Name Bible tells Usmagazine.com.
So where does Bronx come from?
“Bronx - named after early Dutch settler Jonas Bronck - follows in the footsteps of that other NYC borough, Brooklyn, but is not likely to set off a baby name fad as Brooklyn has,” Rosenkrantz adds.
(Victoria and David Beckham named their nine-year-old son Brooklyn after the area of NYC in which he was conceived.)
Brooklyn is more popular than Bronx because it “has a soft, feminine sound - in fact it’s No. 57 on the girls’ popularity list and seen by some parents as the combination of two female names, Brooke and Lynn,” Rosenkrantz says.
“Bronx has a much harsher, grittier sound, and the nickname Bronxie has something of a negative feel,” adds the expert.
But Bronx “follows the tradition started by the Jolie-Pitts of x-ending boys’ names, such in Maddox, Pax and Knox…and the trend for ‘place names’ like Kingston and Paris,” Rosenkrantz points out.
The newborn’s middle name, Mowgli, “was created by Rudyard Kipling for his Jungle Book stories, best remembered by most people via the spunky 10-year-old boy brought up by wolves in the 1967 Disney animated version.
“Even though in the stories Mowgli was said to mean ‘frog,’ it was actually made up by the author and has no real meaning,” she adds.
Overall, the Wentzs may have gone with the moniker because “obviously they’re into Disney big time!” Rosenkrantz says.
“Just weeks ago, the mother-to-be was given a Winnie the Pooh-themed baby shower,” Rosenkrantz says. “Prior to that, the couple were married in an Alice in Wonderland-themed ceremony.”
Bronx Mowgli Wentz was born Thursday night, a rep for the Wentzs confirmed to Us.
“Ashlee, Pete and baby Bronx are all healthy and happy, and thank everyone for their well wishes!” the rep added, calling the couple “proud parents.”

Spiderman star Tobey Maguire, 33, and his wife Jennifer Meyer-Maguire, 31, are expecting their second child, rep Kelly Bush confirms exclusively to In Touch. According to a friend of the couple, who wed in Hawaii in September 2007, “they are ecstatic.”
Britney Spears jokingly impersonates her father, Jamie Spears, in a new clip from her MTV documentary, For the Record (which airs Nov. 30).
“This is my dad,” Spears, 26, says while pacing back and forth between takes of her “Womanizer” video.
“‘Britney, get your a– in here and sit down right there!’” she says, switching into a Southern twang. Jamie - Spears’ permanent conservator - spent most of his life in Louisiana.
“‘She don’t listen to me,’” Spears continues. “‘She screams at me, and she gets on me [for] screaming at her…you have to talk some f–king sense into her.”
Says Jamie, while wiping tears from his eyes: “That made my day.”
Details from Spears’ 90-minute documentary have been trickling out all week.
In the movie, the singer says she “totally lost [her] way” after her 2007 breakdown. She also admits she married Kevin Federline for “all the wrong reasons,” and says her life is worse than jail.

With so many stories swirling around this week about Paris Hilton and Benji Madden calling it quits, who better than the heiress herself to come clean about it all?
During an exclusive call to E! News’ Ryan Seacrest Friday morning, Hilton addressed the issue. But rather than calling it a breakup, she said, “Right now we’re just taking a break.”
Hilton also left open the possibility that she and Madden could get back together down the road.
“He is an incredible person, and we will always be really close,” Hilton said. “We will see what happens in the future. I am still in love with him.”
As for why they decided to go their separate ways for now…
“He has been working nonstop with his brother on his new record. I am working and traveling,” she said. “All these reports that say I dumped him aren’t true. This is a decision we made together as adults.”
Hilton also claims that, despite the rumors, she is not getting back together with her ex-beau Stavros Niarchos, whom she saw last weekend at a party in Miami.
“That’s ridiculous,” she said. “I was on a girls’ weekend with some BFFs from [my MTV] show. Someone must have gotten a quick camera-phone picture of Stavros saying hi. He’s someone I hadn’t seen in a year.”
Of course, Benji is the brother of Joel Madden, who is Paris pal Nicole Richie’s main squeeze. But she insists the split won’t affect their friendship, saying, “Nicole and I don’t get in each other’s relationships. We have a friendship that has been going on since we were 2 years old.”
