Sorry today has been slow…

I had a doctor’s appointment today – and it took forever (flu shot, blood drawn – the works)! Then I had several errands to run…and, well, I’m spent. I’m going to go cook dinner, and relax – it’s been one of those days! I’ll be back full force tomorrow…thanks for being understanding! (Maybe I’ll be able to get some posting done later tonight, but I’m not promising anything!)
My girlfriends and I have formed a book club (we should come up with some cute name)… we get together once a month and talk about the book we’re reading. This month it’s The Glass Castle, and I’ve got to tell you I’m glued! It’s a great, depressing book. What are you guys reading right now?
Speaking of books, I just finished Nicholas Spark’s The Choice – and I have to say, I’ve never cried so hard in all my life. That book was – oh, there are no words.
Okay, I’m really going to make dinner now!

I finished The Glass Castle earlier this read. It was sooo good. I love bios/memoirs that are almost too good to be true. Can you believe their mother??? Wow! Another that caught my eye in the bookstore is Cupcake by Cupcake Brown. Her mother died when she was a child and she’s been a prostitute (I think), drug dealer, retail sales person, and finally and currently a lawyer. Fascinating! Enjoy the book!

Oops… I meant “earlier this year” in that first sentence!

I read this book earlier this year, also. I am currently reading LOVE IN THE TIME of CHOLERA by Gabriel Garcia Marques.

LOVED The Glass Castle! Top for me this year.
My friends and I have also have a book club.
Now we are reading Loving Frank. Super good but I am in the Design field and anything about Frank Lloyd Wright is fascinating to me. This is a love story, a side I have never seen before.
You should suggest Water for Elephants for your next read. Super book!

read The Wind Up bird chronical by Haruki Murakami

Just finished reading “Dear Isabelle” by Jessica Swan. I absolutely loved it!!! It’s a psychological mystery/thriller but very well-written in almost a lyrical, dreamy way. I think it’s perfect for book clubs. I’m going to rec it to my sister for her book club.

I loved the Glass Castle. I thought it was great! That girl and her siblings are lucky to be alive, I think. That is probably the best book I have read all year!
I think it would be cool to have an online book club. I am always looking for new things to read.

My girlfriends and I have a book club. We call ourselves The Novella Society. We have a great time. We read the Glass Castle and Water for Elepants recently. Both excellant books. I recommend A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseni (sp?) He’s the guy that wrote the Kite Runner. It’s one of the best books I’ve read in a looong time.

I have been without a tv since July. The internet is my link to civilization. I have been reading non-stop and am currently reading “Secretariat The Horse that God Made”, I can’t put it down…I also recommend Alan Alda and Chevy Chase’s new one. The best book I’ve read so far this summer has been the 60th Anniversary edition of Diary of A Young Girl by Anne Frank
If you’re not big on reading, I suggest you give it another try…brain food is wonderful

THE KITERUNNER – BY KHALED HOUSSEINI
It is an amazing book. Wise and a lesson for all of mankind.

I am currently reading “The Poe Shadow” by Matthew Pearl. It’s okay, too about 100 pages to get into it. Previously I read Philipa Gregory’s “The Boelyn Inheritance” — great book! I love all her books that revolve around the wives of Henry VIII!
I’ll have to look at Glass Castle

I adored that book! It’s hard to believe that some families are so screwed up and amazing to learn how some people do overcome all obstacles.

Our book club is just finishing Alice Munro’s “Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage” which is a series of short stories. Our meeting is this Saturday but we keep trying to talk about it beforehand. It’s definitely a discussion generator. I snuck in Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road” which I found out that they are thinking of making a movie in 2009 starring Viggo Mortensen…. Last night I started reading A.J. Jacobs’ “The Know-it-All” in which he attempts to read the entire “Encyclopedia Britannica” in order to become the smartest man in the world. It is HILARIOUS!!! We will put “The Glass Castle” on the list for 2008.

My girlfriends and I do the same thing! We just finished reading Running With Scissors, by Augusten Burroughs. Fantastic book, and almost too odd to be true! I highly recommend it.

Mags, if you liked “The Other Boleyn Girl” you should read “The Queen’s Fool” and then “The Virgin Queen”. Philipa Gregory does great with these books. There is also “The Constant Princess” and “The Boleyn Inheritance” Fabulous!!!
