50 Cent has defended his child custody requests, insisting he only wants visitation ever other weekend because he wants minimum disruption to his son’s education.
The In Da Club hitmaker has been embroiled in a legal battle with his ex-girlfriend Shaniqua Tompkins over custody of 11-year-old Marquise for months, and now the former couple’s legal spat will go before a judge on Monday.
50 Cent was reunited with Marquise last month after he accused Tompkins of “kidnapping” their son following a devastating fire at her New York home in May.
The star, who lives in Connecticut, has since been criticized for his request to spend just two weekends a month with Marquise - but the rapper insists he’s simply taking his kid’s schooling seriously.
50 Cent’s lawyer Brett Kimmel claims his client is also seeking access during school holidays and a month in the summer.
Kimmel tells website TMZ.com the custody request “maximizes the time the child can spend with his father while remaining sensitive to the child’s own schedule”.
The rapper recently spent 10 days with his son at his sprawling Connecticut mansion before heading overseas to shoot a new movie. The move came after 50 Cent and Tompkins reached a temporary custody agreement. The former couple’s ongoing legal spat will be brought before a judge on Monday in a bid to permanently resolve their differences.

Guy Ritchie has hinted at the fact he doesn’t follow his wife Madonna’s Kabbalah beliefs in a new interview promoting a documentary he’s made about the faith.
Ritchie is hoping his new film will help others understand exactly what makes the ancient mysticism of Kabbalah so appealing to people like Madonna and Demi Moore - even though he admits he’s not altogether clear about the movement himself.
In an interview with Extra, Ritchie said, “It’s a complicated subject… I don’t really understand Kabbalah as a religion or a belief system.” But he thinks his film will be of great interest to those who are curious about Kabbalah: “It gets people rather hot under the collar.”

Kate Hudson has fired back at reports she and Bride Wars co-star Anne Hathaway are caught up in a tense war of words after falling out on the set of the upcoming film.
The pair teamed up for the film earlier this year, playing best friends-turned worst enemies - and their on-camera issues became off-set problems when real-life mirrored fiction, according to reports.
A source tells Us Weekly magazine: “She (Hudson) was just awful to Anne… (but) she (Hathaway) never played into Kate’s cattiness.”
But a spokesperson for Hudson insists the reports are complete fiction, stating: “She and Anne have always been good girlfriends and remain food girlfriends. This is ridiculous and couldn’t be further from the truth.”

R&B singer Chris Brown has denied reports he has moved in with girlfriend Rihanna, insisting he’s too young to play house with the Take A Bow hitmaker.
The pair sparked rumors they were engaged just last month, after Rihanna, 20, was photographed wearing a diamond ring on her wedding finger, and now gossip columnists are hinting the couple is living together.
Speculation reached fever pitch last week when Brown revealed he was looking for a new home - but he now insists the place will be a bachelor pad.
The singer states, “I’m 19! I barely want my friends to stay over more than three days.”
