Nicole Kidman = Box Office Poison, Part 2
After Nicole Kidman’s last movie came out (Invasion) - I wrote about how I thought Nicole Kidman was box office poison. A bunch of you got upset with me, so I just dropped it. Well, I hate to say it - but it looks like the curse is about to continue.
And just for s**t’s and giggles - I would like to know what was the last movie Nicole was in that actually did well…? I’d say the last movie she did that actually made any real money was Moulin Rouge!
Well, don’t listen to me…here’s what the NY Post has to say:
PITY Nicole Kidman, who hasn’t had a hit in several years. Early buzz on “The Golden Compass” - based on the first book in Philip Pullman’s “His Dark Materials” trilogy - is negative as well.
“It is a $175 million investment for New Line Cinema, which has been hurting ever since ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy,” says an insider. “People working on the movie say it is just plain bad.”
The picture is said to rely too much on computer-generated images and may stumble with its talking, armored polar bear. But a New Line rep said, “That’s bull[bleep],” and got us a quote from Ted Cooper, the senior vice president of Regal Entertainment Group who saw the movie at the Showeast convention.
Cooper said, ” ‘Golden Compass’ has been on my radar for nearly a year now. I perceive this as one of the most important films to play throughout the holidays.”
Kidman’s latest flicks have been a flock of turkeys: “The Stepford Wives,” “The Invasion,” “Bewitched,” “The Interpreter,” “Dogville” and “Fur.” A rep for Kidman didn’t return e-mails.

i agree that the past several movies nicole has been in haven’t been box office gold, but i wouldn’t call her box office poison, what about cold mountain? i’m pretty sure that was more recent that moulin rouge, and it was a great movie!

I don’t get it how did Lord of the Rings hurt New Line Cinema. And as far as Nicole Kidman goes isn’t she a bit of an oddball in the box office anyway.

So what if she isn´t Hollywoods golden cow! Let the others do that dirty work. She is a quality actress who picks out the interesting movies and caracters. That´s what matters. Who cares about blockbuster-movies anyway? Not me.

I agree with you. I don’t care for Nicole Kidman as an actress. And Moulin Rouge… that movie sucked so bad!

You all believe NYPost???Golden Compass could be the worst movie ever made, but still it would do really well . Not really as popular as HP but the books has a tremendous fanbase in Europe.(only about 5million copies sold in the US)!!!!
As for Asia,they are now doing an intense marketing campaign using Kidman, just like they did with “Happy Feet”. Makes sense, because she’s the top celeb endorser here.

Golden Compass will be a big hit. Although the books are not as popular as HP, it has a tremendous fanbase in Europe(only about 5 million copies sold in the US).
As for Asia, there is now an intense marketing campaign using Kidman, just like they did with “Happy Feet”.

She is right up there with Godzilla in Asia, maybe she will move there and tend to her Japanese garden the rest of her life. She ruins movies, when will Hollywood learn to stop wasting money on Freeze Face Fishlips?

Hmm, maybe she doesn’t have incredibly high sales, but “The Stepford Wives,”,” “Fur” and “Dogville” were really good movies(especially the last one) and she got paid a lot to do them

Nicole have been kind of experimental on choosing “film type” and “role type”. She obviously doesn’t care box office(in my opinion). I mean, what she gotta prove anyways, she’s got Oscar. I think Cruise(just off the top of my head) is targeting more on box office materials, which I don’t think are all great, story lines are repeated somewhat. Point is, Nic has stopped doing films for money but more on proving her skills as an actor.

She is way over rated and over paid.She never was very good and now that she’s frozen her face and puffed her lips up like a fish she is plain scary looking.She is defenatly box office poison.It’s kind of fun to see how badly they do and read all the crappy reviews. She’s just a joke now,

I’m an Aussie but I hate Nicole Kidman, i’m sorry but she’s a hack ‘actress’ who gets far too much publicity than she deserves.
If you want to see a really good Australian actress then pick any movie Cate Blanchett has made recently. Now there is a woman who can act! In fact i’d claim shes easily one of the best actresses of recent times.
