James McAvoy to play Kurt Cobain? What do you think?

James McAvoy is being lined up to play late rock legend Kurt Cobain in a new movie. The ‘Atonement’ star is hotly-tipped to portray the Nirvana frontman, who committed= suicide in 1994, in a film about his life, which is due to be produced by Cobain’s widow Courtney Love.
A source said: “James is making a big impact in Hollywood at the moment. Hollywood bosses are convinced he is the perfect choice to play Kurt Cobain.”
The film will be largely based on Charles Cross’ biography ‘Heavier than Heaven’. Cobain’s unpublished journals will also be used to fill in personal details for the screenplay, which is being penned by ‘Troy’ writer David Benioff.
Cobain enjoyed massive success fronting Nirvana with bassist Krist Novoselic and drummer Dave Grohl in the early 90s with hits like ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ and ‘Come As You Are’, but his life was dogged by depression and drug use.
He was just 27 when he shot himself, leaving behind Courtney and their daughter Frances Bean Cobain, now 16.

I believe that McAvoy can pull off any role if he puts his mind to it and he does/has so far, however, I remain skeptical that this is legitimate. I like the idea of a movie being created from Kurt’s own words though, but don’t like the association that Courtney is the producer (not because she killed Kurt, she didn’t, because she is a trainwreck!) I agrees, blue, Michael Pitt would be better suited if he hadn’t played this role already.

I love McAvoy, but honestly…this role is Joe Anderson’s. Joe played Max in Across The Universe. He even looks like Cobain…plus he just has the “angst” if that’s the right word.

Pitt would be a great choice, but he already did a movie called “Last Days” based loosely on Cobain’s life.

I think Mr. McAvoy would be the perfect choice to portray Kurt Cobain. Look at his work in the little known film “Rory O’Shea Was Here” or any other of his film credits. McAvoy is an amazing young talent who would be able to bring the depth needed to play a convincing and emtionally complex, melancholic like Cobain. Too bad it will be tainted by Love- I’ll have to watch the completed film with a grain of salt and wonder what was skewed for her benefit – but she can’t be separated from Cobain’s demise or past. I am excited about the possibility of two of my very favorite talents being merged – Cobain & McAvoy.

im thinking no, and to not even make a film. would kurt even have wanted a film made by him?Not that i knew him personally, since i was the same age as Frances when he died, but he didnt seem to like attention that much. and frances is 15, not 16.

NO! he would be a good choice if it wasnt for Joe Anderson who played Max in Across the Universe. He also sings in a raspy voice that sounds just like Kurts..ugh i really hope they choose Joe..hes PERFECT for that role.
