Trista’s Baby Exclusive: Preeclampsia Nearly Killed Me

After struggling to conceive for two years, Trista, 34, finally became pregnant in November 2006. “EPT sent me about 100 pregnancy tests, and I discovered I was pregnant with the very last one,” Trista says in the new issue of Us Weekly.
But things got scary during Trista’s ninth month. Her doctor found protein in her urine and tested The Bachelorette star for preeclampsia, a potentially fatal hypertensive disorder that typically occurs toward the end of a pregnancy. “I was terribly nauseous and in a lot of pain,” she says.
Trista was diagnosed with HELLP syndrome (a complication of preeclampsia). “The risks are seizures and coma, so they kept me overnight for observation,” Trista explains. “I can’t remember much of the next day. My liver was failing. The only cure for HELLP syndrome is to have the baby, so they induced me.”
After six hours Trista’s levels kept getting worse. “I knew something was wrong when the doctor looked worried.” Ryan tells Us, “They said there was a chance her liver could rupture. They were trying to get us to make a comfortable decision to go with a C-section. Eventually we said if Trista’s health is deteriorating and we’re jeopardizing the baby’s health, then do what you have to do.”

I guess Trista & Ryan will be famous FOREVER…esp. as NONE of ABC’s BACHELORS bother with marriage!

I am happy they had their baby but it sounds like they are making the story bigger than it was. 9 months isn’t that early to have a baby I have friends whose baby was born 2 months early. That being said preeclampsia isn’t fun I had it with my first.

Ugh. Is there NOTHING this cow won’t do to extend her 15 minutes of fame? Why is it necessary to schlep her newborn out for pictures for no reason other than $$$ and attention. She is deplorable.

I HAD HELLP syndrome too, it really is rare and scary and deadly. I have never heard of anyone else having it! Glad she’s alright

I also had preclampsia and HELLP sydrome I got it after giving birth to my son usually you have while your pregnant and giving birth gets rid of it. In my was very rare. They are both very serious conditions the HELLP syndrome is extremley rare. I am pregnant with my second child and praying it doesn’t happen again. Glad to hear everything ended up ok for Trista.
