I just got back from watching “The Nanny Diaries”

And I half expected it to suck. But I really enjoyed it! I had asked earlier this week if people thought Scarlett Johansson would be believable as a nanny. Variety had commented that Scarlett was “too voluptuously beautiful for the job”. I thought Scarlett filled the part perfectly, and did a great job acting.
I was really surprised to see Paul Giamatti – I didn’t even know he was in the movie! Scarlett’s character was great – but I found Laura Linney’s character so much more interesting. Laura Linney is one of the finest female actresses these days (in my opinion) and she nailed the part of the Upper East Side wife/mother role perfectly.
Anyways – did any of you guys make it to the movies this weekend? What did you see?

PS: I also saw “Mr. Bean’s Holiday” with the boys on Friday – and I laughed so hard. (I didn’t know they even made G rated movies anymore.) In fact I was the only one laughing in the theater. That could have been because I was surrounded by senior citizens, and I’m pretty sure they were all asleep. Oh well…Mr. Bean kicks ass.

Jocely, I hope you see this comment. What age is this good for with kids? Would a 4yo get it?

I saw Superbad over the weekend. It’s definitely not a movie for the kids. Hilarious, but I felt bad watching it cause I know this isn’t a movie I’d watch with my parents.

i saw the nanny diaries as well and it is a much better movie than the critics have said it is. it’s not one of Scarlett’s best movies like lost in translation but it is a pretty enjoyable little movie. laura linney is really good in this movie.

Katie:
Yes, I think Mr. Bean is fine for a 4 year old. He/she might get bored, but the movie’s fine. It’s slapstick humor, and most kids
get that.
