Britney Spears could be about to follow in Madonna’s foot steps by moving to Europe and she’s apparently making a b-line straight for London.

Friends claim she’s trying to escape her stressful custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline and thinks London is the right place to hide.

She’s so serious about the move, one friend told a US newspaper, she’s even working on an English accent.

The friend said: ‘She thinks her only hope is to move to London for a fresh start.’

‘She is so scared about losing her boys that her mind is racing trying to think of how to keep them.’

‘Britney thinks she can arrive in London and blend in with the locals. But she doesn’t have a clue how to write a cheque.’

Meanwhile, there is confusion over the singer’s whereabouts after her low profile over the past few days.

In one bizarre sighting, a restaurant owner in Belgium claims the singer surprised him by popping into his establishment to use the toilet.

The owner of Erasmus restaurant in Antwerp said she was coming from the airport and looked a mess in a wig that was too big for her.

But others claim they saw her driving in Beverly Hills with her two sons the same day.

An onlooker said: ‘The kids were in the back of the car and Britney seemed to be driving aimlessly.’

It has also been reported the 25-year-old is beefing up her self defence skills so she can be a more protective mum to Sean Preston, 1 and 10 month-old Jayden James.

She is said to have signed up to the hardcore Israeli combat techniques employed by Matt Damon in The Bourne Ultimatum.

Sources say she decided to take action after receiving threatening mail.

An insider said: ‘She has beefed up security, informed them of such mail. She is doing her best to make a comeback but she is terrified about the negative attention she is getting.’

‘She realises she does not have the stamina she used to, after having two kids. She is tired, her body does not work the same. She is putting in overtime into working out strength training, and she’s serious about martial art Krav Maga.’
