Poor David Beckham!

It looks like he’s got a following of haters out there! I sort of feel bad. There was a LOT of pressure on him when he came over here, and all that money America paid him didn’t help either, but it’s not his fault he has a bum ankle. I hope he gets better soon!

No feeling bad here! I am not a big Beckham fan to begin with, he is a somewhat marginal player anymore who has made his name big not on talent but the fact he knows how to work the PR. He also has been benched for AGES by Real Madrid for a miriade of reasons according to him but mostly because he just doesn’t “have it” anymore according to them. He was bought for his name recognition basically NOT because he is a super player. All THAT being said, I do like the fact he HAS brought more interest to soccer in the US, it is a really great sport which most are still not to sure about despite recent year interests by a number of people.

Sorry, I just had to add my two cents!

  2. Marta Says:

i dont blame this people.Club paid enormous amount of money for him and he’s not playing because of injury.People are disappointed.

  3. Inca Says:

His ankle isn’t too hurt to party and shop with his attention whore of a wife every single day. It doesn’t come across as if he is taking this whole soccer thing very seriously. The fans have a right to be disappointed!

  4. Ashley Says:

People need to stop the hate..If i was Beckham I would be sitting home and laughing b/c i got paid alot of money to play..and i dont even have to play..AWESOME..he is sexy and i dont mind watching him sit..leave him alone..hes hot!

  5. Taylor Says:

The difference, Ashley, is the people holding signs are SOCCER fans. Not people who like him because he is hot. They like soccer and they want to see him play.

Now personally, I am with you. Looking pretty is good enough for me ;)

  6. May Says:

I agree with you T. I think losing a chance at the World Cup last year was really damaging and perhaps keys us in that Beckham isn’t as good as he used to be. That said, he’s not exactly the youngest player so I am sure injuries are natural.

Waiting to see him play though. His presence isn’t going to turn American soccer around by far but it’s certainly put it under the radar.

“Bench it like Beckham” is pretty funny.

  7. Hemi Says:

Beckham is way past his prime. I’m 100% confident that the Galaxy have not paid him for his playing abilities, but his ability to lift the profile of the game in the US and generate more income for the game through advertisers, sponsors, attendance etc.

  8. Blondey Says:

I hate when people talk about something they know nothing about. Soccer is a game of non-stop running. For him to play on an injured ankle right now would just be stupid on everyone’s part. America is the land of immediate gratification. We’re just going to have to be patient and wait. I will bet money to anyone on here that he’s going to be all that he’s built up to be. T, I know it’s your two cents worth, and that’s about what it’s worth. To say David Beckham is a marginal player is just ignorant. People that say that don’t know what they’re talking about or they’ve never watched him play. He’s a joy to watch. They don’t talk about his left foot for nothing. His first touch in the exhibition game was a beautiful long ball, and there are many more of those to come. So STOP HATING people and get over yourselves.

  9. T Says:

Blondey- you are allowed your opinion on something the same as I. However you have no clue who I am (nor I you) so to say I am ignorant upon something based on the assumption I am American, non imformed etc is well… ignorant. I am VERY aware of Beckhams stats, abilities, etc and I stand by my words above. He IS past his prime, he IS spending more time injured then not these days- which Real Madrid very publically adressed as to the validity of the situation, and he is NOT all that. A majority of his appeal comes from his looks and the fact he knows how to play the PR scales, in a game or on the red carpet. I never said he was not talented, however he is NOT worth the hype that has been made compared to a number of other players who ARE much better players then him. He has not even been known at the “golden foot” in any true sense of the word for a number of years. Next time you call someone ignorant or suggest they stop hating maybe you should make sure they REALLY truly ARE ignorant… or maybe you just like him because he is hot? I will give him that, the man just screams out sexy from every pore of his being but as far as “the best of the best” not so much.

  10. J Says:

Blondey – ‘they’ don’t talk about his left foot at all, it’s his right which has made him famous. The reality is, if he’s not 100% fit, he shouldn’t play – particularly if he still has hopes of playing for England again. And T, to say he is not worth the hype compared to other players, while this may be true (given he’s in his 30s anyway), there are two chances of any other world class player moving to play in the MLS: slim and none

  11. Joey Says:

To Ashley that said, along the lines of, “I don’t feel sorry for him…He got paid a lot of money, and now he doesn’t have to do a thing, he should be laughing his arse off…” (obviously not her exact words, but i really don’t care), you are truly what is wrong with the american society….People, especially the younger generations, who don’t want to work, and just want the cash (usually from their parents), i see it everyday here in LA, 16-17 year olds driving around in MBZ’s and Beemers…pathetic….Beckman’s move out here was just a publicity slut, to get that chick with him the attention she is looking for…God I hate celebraties and the people who admire them!!

  12. Anonymous Says:

    He’s a hottie! That’s all i care about!

  13. Amanda Says:

AMEN Joey! I am 25, and have had to work my ass off for EVERYTHING I have gotten, and my parents are rich. But you know what? I am so fuking grateful to them for giving me something that is so rare in most people nowadays…a work ethic. SO yeah, those spoiled bitches may have BMWS and stuff, but I have a Lexus and a Civic that I worked for. And I’m perfectly fine with that.

    PS-Beckham is not cute.

  14. Ednonymous Says:

This has-been soccer player has not increased american interest in soccer… the only interest is in seeing the husband of a spice girl.
Americans cannot understand the idea that a great soccer game may only have one or two goals unlike basketball with the non-stop scoring throughout the game. Next year will be a dud… that’s how little americans will care for beckham & the game.

  15. wayne Says:

Ohh i don’t get paid as much as beckham and i have a real job.. boohoo morons, you dont get paid as much as beckham because you aren’t talented, is that fact too much for your tiny minds to grasp. He isn’t playing because he’s injured, and in general athletes don’t play when they are injured, same as you don’t go to work when your sick..oh and if you do have to go to work when you are sick, i suggest you get a better job.

  16. Paul Says:

He is a very good player there’s no harm in saying that.. if you say otherwise you obviously don’t know the game all to well. i think some more effort could be put into the recovery efforts by him, but it’s a trainer’s job to keep a man motivated. so what are the trainers doing while he walks around shopping and spending his millions. i can’t much blame him.. he has to find time to spend his money somewhere. and as one reader said… “he is sexy and i don’t mind watching him sit..leave him alone..hes hot!” that’s just nuts.. do we pay people 50 million a year to look hot. i don’t think so. so it’s not ok that he’s sitting on the bench, but if it is a serious injury, he should not be judged. so disappointed in david beckham is not the answer, being dissapointed that someone is willing to let him sit there and do nothing instead of trying to recover, is the problem. so come on trainers.. get the guy doing something and stop shitting on him everyone.

  17. English person wot understands things Says:

Any dumbass yankee holding up a poster about Beckham is a damned 100% idiot. If youse injured yous injured end of. If youse stupid enough to pay him $250m a week thats your problem. if he’s crocked he’s crocked, you dumb mofos

  18. Paul Says:

FFS, he’s injured – what do you expect him to do? He’ll get over it and probably be the best player in the team. I’m not a Beckham fan or anything but let the man recover.

  19. MS Says:

I agree that Beckham is past his prime. He’s old news in the football world and at his age this is perhaps the smartest move he could’ve done to ensure a comfortable future for him and his family. Having said that, I had a chance to watch him in a TV interview some years ago, and I have to say he seemed like a genuinely nice guy, so I don’t think he deserves all the hate he’s been getting. If he came to the US for the money, then more power to him, but if he was expecting to be treated nicely by the media and the fans boy did he come to the wrong place! I think he’ll find that out the hard way and it won’t be long before he starts relishing the good old days in Madrid.

  20. dankoj Says:

    dear joey,
If you had 1/2 a brain you could become president one day,Beckham came to america for the money and because of pressure from his missus, but, who do you think the real winners will be when all the hype calms down.
LA Galaxy, thats who, real madrid made 350 million pounds (700 million dollars) from retail marketing alone, just because of beckham in just over 2 years.
All the crap about how much he is earning from a nation that pays pitchers and quarterbacks millions of dollars a year to play for a fraction of a match in their respective games.
No, he will not change the american way of looking at soccer, what may have an effect is the movement of young U.S. soccer players to the european arena’s, thus building worldwide interest in U.S. soccer and gaining bigger investment in stadiums, salaries and marketing to encourage youngsters to take up the game.
But Beckham will be a success, on and off the field of play…..
