Although she has credited “medical intervention” for her weight loss in the past, Star Jones Reynolds has said she had gastric bypass surgery — until now!

In a personal essay penned by Star for the September issue of Glamour, she writes, “I was also terrified someone would have a tragic result after emulating me without making an informed decision with her doctor. But the complete truth is, I was scared of what people might think of me.”

The former View co-host, who has lost about 160 lbs. over three years, says at first she didn’t know if the surgery would work. “I had spent my entire adult life telling everyone that I was fine with the way I looked. I never thought I’d have to explain it.”

Jones Reynold is gearing up to host a new show on Court TV.
