Evangeline Lilly Felt Liberated After Home Was Destroyed In Fire

Evangeline Lilly found the experience of having all her possessions destroyed when a fire swept through her home “really liberating and exciting.” The Lost star’s Hawaiian property burned to the ground in December 2006.

Despite being homeless, the optimistic 27-year-old decided the blaze, which was caused by an electrical fault, was a good thing.
She says, “It was a really liberating and exciting thing to happen. All that I lost were the things inside. I’ve always believed things are more of a chain than a vehicle. To not be tied down to anything was a great feeling.
“I was at work and I was like, ‘So I’ve got the clothes on my back, my wallet and my car and that’s everything I have in the world.’ It was like I was 20 again and the world was my oyster and I could go anywhere, do anything and be free.”

Yeah, real easy to feel “liberated and excited” when your home burns to the ground when you’ve got a few bucks in the bank and you can just get new stuff. Say that to people who don’t have that luxury after that kind of tragedy.

Was going to say the same thing, Lulu. It doesn’t mean much coming from someone who has the money to replace everything. Not to mention how she always brags that the house was furnished entirely from Salvation Army for like $30.

Erm…im sorry but what do you expect her to say “Poor me..l have lost all my stuff and im soo sad..feel sorry for me (sob) (sob)”. There would have be an uproar had she said that to make people feel sorry for her and gain some sympathy. Aleast she’s speaking the truth, but it doesnt matter which side she takes she cant win. People will hate her for seeing the bright side of the situation and people will hate her for complaining. But she’s is only talking about how she feels not how every single person on the planet feels about losing everything – theres a big difference.
She may have millions in the bank but that doesnt bring back irraplacable items that have been lost. so if she feels “liberated and excited” then good for her, its her life.

yeah i think we all thought the same thing: easy to feel liberated when you’re a multimillionaire.
nonetheless, i still like her. she does seem somewhat down to earth.

Cocoblush – don’t get me wrong, I am a huge fan of EL. BUT, that doesn’t change the fact that she IS a rich celebrity who has money to replace everything she had. If she had said that as an average Joe just struggling to get by it would have meant more than coming from a millionaire. But the lesson for each of us to remember is that things are just that – things. They can burn tomorrow and we won’t have anything, so best not to place too much emphasis on them.

Like mereum said, she seems to be down to earth and that’s why I like her. She may be a multimillionaire but things like old photos and gifts from friends and family, diaries etc can’t be replaced that easily and if I would be her now I would feel much more sad than her just because of those things.

She’s such an asshole. One, her shit is covered by insurance and (2) she loaded. I bet it wouldn’t be so liberating for the rest of us working schmucks who actually need our home and belongings.

That wasn’t her house… it was rented.
So what’s the big deal?

What the fuck! She’s insane. “Liberating and exciting”?!?!
People these days…Jeez.
