John Mayer, 29, tells GQ.com he knew Seacrest, 32, would ask about his fling with Jessica Simpson at this year’s Grammy’s in February.

“When Ryan says, ‘You know I have to ask you’—which is one of the dumbest prefaces of all time—I think, Maybe I’ll just answer you in Japanese,” he
recalls. “And then you’ll have to figure it out.” (He says he rehearsed his Japanese-spoken response for three days. It translated into, “She’s a lovely woman and I’m glad to be with her.”)

A source tells US Magazine, “[He and Ryan] are friends. This is something John said in jest.”

Mayer and Simpson are no longer together, but singledom isn’t the only heartbreak Mayer has suffered this year. Mayer recently when he learned that former Sony head Ienner didn’t initially dig his latest CD, Continuum. When he got the bad news via his manager, “I cried that day. That was a rough day,” he says. “There were other things going on, and I’d quit music in my head…for about forty-five minutes.”

Poor John. What a rotten year for him! He got to date Jessica Simpson, only one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, and he won 2 Grammy’s this year for his album “Continuum”. What’s a guy to do?

On a side note, I hate it when guys wear V-neck shirts. Ick.
