Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Kids and adults around the world waited in line last night for the latest, and last installment of the new Harry Potter book. At 12:01 a.m. many fans got their hands on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, but I expect many more fans will have to wait for new shipments to arrive as, I am sure, bookstores have sold every last copy.

The books has a print run of 12 million in the United States. Rowling herself gave a midnight reading to 500 contest-winning kids at London’s Natural History Museum. Lucky!

So, what about the book itself? I got this critique from Sue Corbett from People Magazine:

Rowling doesn’t want anyone spoiling the plot of her wildly successful epic, but she’s quite the tease herself, having whipped readers into an anxious frenzy by dropping hints about characters biting the dust in Deathly Hallows. And boy, do they ever. The first death comes in chapter one, and the final body count is high. Harry is in peril from the beginning, with Death Eaters swarming the skies as he’s about to turn 17. The plot careens nearly non-stop from one scrape to the next – it may be some of the most exhausting fiction ever put to page. But it’s also exhilarating, and a must-read for those with nagging questions about Snape’s true nature, Dumbledore’s childhood, and all else Hogwartian. As expected, it all ends with a Star Wars-worthy battle between Good and Evil. Rowling’s fans won’t be disappointed.

I don’t know if anyone has read it yet, but personally I am dying to read it! However, I fear that I am going to have to wait  a bit for the bookstores to restock. Anyone want to give a review without giving away any of the big surprises!?

I went to the Costco in San Francisco, CA at 4pm this afternoon and they had a whole palette full of Deathly Hallows just sitting there… who needs to wait in line or pre-order??

  3. Marisa Says:

I didn’t realize. How exciting! I will probably drop by Costco tomorrow then. Thanks for the tips guys! I didn’t even bother since I figured they’d all be sold out.

THE EPILOGUE AT THE END OF THE BOOK IS HORRIBLE!!!!

  7. Jen Says:

yes the epilogue is horrible. I went to the bookstore and waited in line with some friends. I actually enjoyed it. It was mayhem.

  8. Cindy Says:

I hated the last part of the book. It sounded amateurish. They rest was okay tho.

  9. AreYouKiddingMe Says:

I’m almost finished, and rather disappointed. It was not as exciting as I had hoped. It seems to drag on and on….

  10. Katie P. Says:

Epilogue was good awful, sounded like it was written by a 12 year old. Harry and Hermione would have been better off dying at the end of book 5. Maybe they did and were replaced with shallow, wimpy, insecure robots with monsters in their chests.

    Harry doesn’t die

  12. BluEyedBlondie Says:

  14. alison Says:

i thought it was pretty good! i wasn’t disappointed w/ it at all. i was pretty sad at some parts though. i thought it was great the way she tied it all together in the end!

  15. Stacy Says:

Oi! What are all you complaining about? Just be happy that the trio didn’t suffer any losses….I mean what more can you really ask for..The book was amazing…The three are alive, which means Rowling may get the itch to bring Harry back in another book

  16. Stacy Says:

Oh and WAY TO GO NEVILLE!

  17. Kelly Says:

I went to Borders at midnight and I got my book @ 1:30am. The book is incredible. Not just one part but all of it. In the beginning there is alot oh my gods and gasps because of all the action. The middle does get a little boring, but the end makes up for it. You learn alot more about Albus and Snape, and why they chose their sides. Its a great book, sometimes I felt like jumping out of my seat and other times I began crying. Rowling said there was going to be 2 major deaths but there are more and very surprising. I won’t name names but some deaths are extremely sad. I understand alot of people are saying the epilouge sucked however I am just happy that she decided to tell us what happens to the characters after the book finishes. All I can say is that you won’t regret spending all day reading the book instead of doing chores, working or spending time with your family. LOL! Enjoy it.

The book was amazing, I read the whole thing on Sunday. The epilogue was a little silly, and having an epilogue at all, it should have been expanded to let you know where other characters ended up, but the book was a very satisfying ending to the series.

  19. Hilary Says:

I read it in two days which is saying alot since I had to work both days. It was INCREDIBLE! I laughed, I cried, and was thoroughly exhilarated the entire time. I just kept thinking, “I have the outcome right here in my hands!” and poured over the book ravinously. The epilogue, however it was written, was something I had always wondered if (and hoped that) she would do. I believe it was necessary to tie everything together, and not let us feel as though we were left hanging.

i thought the sirius black plotline was horribly neglected. and luna didn’t serve any real purpose when looking at the series as a whole. i don’t even know why she was in the books – except perhaps to show that even dorks are fighters at heart, but neville was already demonstrating that point well enough. i think some of the plot points involving luna should have been rewritten to involve sirius somehow. especially at the end of the book! sirius was possibly the biggest martyr in the series, and yet the last book barely even acknowledges him.
