New 1-18-08 Photo Revealed

I was asked no fewer than a dozen times over the weekend about JJ Abrams “secret” new movie, tentatively titled “1-18-08” (the release date). Everyone – like me – saw the trailer before seeing Transformers. I know very little about this movie – other than it’s JJ Abrams – and that there is a website that provides very few details. There are 3 photo’s that you can move around – yet I don’t know what it all means. (Very LOST-ish)
The (or one of the) official site(s) for the J.J. Abrams-produced 1-18-08 has revealed a third photo from the movie which shows New York residents during or after the attack on the city (by what is unknown still). You can check it out at 1-18-08.com, where you can move the three photos around to get a better view. The timestamps on the photos indicate that things happen pretty darn quick.
Released by Paramount Pictures, the secret movie is directed by Matt Reeves and written by Drew Goddard. Michael Stahl-David, Odet Jasmin, Mike Vogel and Lizzy Kaplan star.
In case you haven’t seen the trailer – here it the teaser. I am a HUGE JJ Abrams fan – therefor I cannot wait – and will be hanging on every detail until the movie releases!

Rumor has it this movie’s working title is Cloverfield. There are different theories flying around – that it is a movie based on HP Lovecraft’s Chtulu, that the monster is a giant Griffin, that it’s a Voltron movie. All I know is when it opens, I’m there! And yeah – living in NYC, I’m wondering why we always take a beating.

Did you happen to notice that you can turn the pictures over, and to date there are 5 pictures and 2 have writing on them.

On the pictures that you can flip over their are letters on each of the backs that are either blurry or smudged. I don’t know if this has any significance or what I just thought it was worth noting. The Letters are SCRE (from the pic where the guy is taking a shot) and ANDW (from the pic of the three people).

Have you heard the theory that it is based on the game Rampage? Here’s the link to wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rampage_(arcade_game)

it is most likely Cthulu the ancient Sumerian “all evil”
if you look at the trailer you won’t get much from it, but the slusho site has a lot of allusions to the bottom of the sea. cthulu is a giant monster (a mass of tentacles as described by the sumerians and H.P. Lovecraft) that lives on the ocean floor. The story is that this ultimate evil sleeps thousands of years at a time and is occasionally woke up by the folly of man (there is the only godzilla reference you’ll get out of me) and destroys the Earth at will until the people are forced to start everything over from scratch.
this really adds up in the case of Abrams who is obviously (from his body of work particularly Lost) is influenced by Lovecraft whose sole writing principle revolved around Cthulu and other ancient long forgotten gods.
I’d be willing to bet anyone here 5 bones that this is the case. Do some Lovecraft research and specifically Cthulu and you’ll see where I’m going with this.
