Ellen Pompeo Was Raised By Drag Queens

Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo is thrilled she’s a gay icon - because she was raised by a group of drag queens. The actress, who is a spokeswoman for gay groups, credits her colorful upbringing for her positive attitude towards gay men and lesbians. And now she’s considered a friend of homosexuals, who have embraced her character in medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, she couldn’t be happier.
She says, “I was raised by drag queens, practically… My mother died when I was four-years-old, so I was effectively raised by a bunch of different people. A lot of those people were friends of my sister, Kathleen, who had all these gay friends. She would baby-sit me everyday, and she would take me over to her friend’s houses with all kinds of things going on: tucking, and eyebrow drawing, waxing, all sorts of things. I was literally raised by gay men.”

Wow, she looks fabulous in this picture. And good for her. Most people whine about their upbringing if it was problematic and use it as a crutch; she embraced hers.
