The Smashing Pumpkins have announced their first live show since 2000 with an intimate date at the Grand Rex in Paris.

After this first show the band will embark on a European tour calling at a number of festivals, including the Carling Weekend at Reading and Leeds.

The band will debut songs from their forthcoming album Zeitgeist, which is their sixth studio album and the first new material since Machina/The Machines of God released in 2000.

After forming in Chicago in 1988 the Smashing Pumpkins became one of North America’s foremost bands.

Their debut album Gish went platinum upon its release in 1991 and their landmark record Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness went nine-times platinum.

The band’s hits include Disarm, Today, Cherub Rock, 1979, Tonight, Tonight and Bullet with Butterfly Wings.

The Smashing Pumpkins join an increasingly impressive list of reformed bands who are making a live return this summer.

Iggy and the Stooges have already staged a comeback and the Police will be performing a full European tour later this year.

The real question is… will they ever be any good again?
