Courtney Love has claimed her meltdown after the suicide of husband Kurt Cobain laid a path for the crumbling of Britney Spears years later.
The rock widow also confirmed that she took drugs during her pregnancy with the Nirvana singer’s daughter Frances Bean, now 16.
She told Elle magazine: ‘I had a long, hard fall. I set the stage for Britney to crash and burn. I went through it all first.’
The 44-year-old also set the record straight about rumours she used a gastric band to lose weight.
She said: ‘Baby, if I could get a gastric band I would. I’ve heard it’s a lot of vomiting and a pain in the ass but it’s still easier than a diet.’
Also, she said a Hollywood doctor vetoed the idea after which she tried liposuction, which ‘was horrible and didn’t work’.
After slimming by ’simply not eating’, the Hole singer was shocked to ‘look like a skeleton’.
She said she then started eating again. Love also described the family unit with Cobain and Frances Bean before the rock star shot himself in 1994: ‘We were excellent parents and I say that despite pretty much always having an edge on.’
She said she has told Frances Bean that she took drugs early in pregnancy but her daughter was born healthy and a good size.
Love also put to bed claims she has been sleeping with Russell Brand.
She added: ‘Russell and me are just good friends.’ Read the full interview in Elle magazine on Wednesday.

Blake Fielder-Civil admits he introduced his wife, Amy Winehouse, to drugs in a new interview.
“I dragged Amy into it, and without me there is no doubt that she would never have gone down that road,” Fielder-Civil told the U.K.’s News of the World. “I ruined something beautiful.”
He said he would end their marriage to stop her from killing herself.
“Now I have to let her go to save her life. I am not abandoning her. I am doing this out of love,” he said. “I have had to live with that for the past year that I have been in prison and I have got so much remorse.”
In the interview, Fielder-Civil, 26, admitted to introducing Winehouse, 25, to crack cocaine and self-injury. He said that Winehouse only smoked marijuana before he gave her hard drugs. He also described watching Winehouse have a seizure after an all-day binge.
“It was heartbreaking seeing someone you love more than yourself, someone you would die for, someone you would kill for, on the floor shaking,” he said.
Fielder-Civil admitted that “it’s my fault” and said he’d been in tears and speaking to counselors about how he and Winehouse can’t be together.
“If it wasn’t for drugs, me and Amy would be so happy. Just without that in our lives — without crack and without heroin — Amy would be making beautiful music,” he said.
He reached out to Winehouse through News of the World: “I’m sorry that love isn’t enough… I’m sorry that we can’t be normal together.”
The couple wed in May 2007 in Miami Beach. They were both arrested for marijuana possession in October of that year. Fielder-Civil was then sent to jail after being charged with conspiracy involving alleged witness tampering. He was released Nov. 5.

ER star Parminder Nagra and her photographer beau, James Stenson, are expecting their first child this summer, the actress confirms to Usmagazine.com exclusively. “We are thrilled and overjoyed at the prospect of becoming first time parents,” Nagra tells Us. The couple will tie the knot as well. “Yes, our plans are to get married but there’s no confirmed date yet,” Nagra says. ” We have been together for nearly 7 years.”
Nagra, who was born in England, will continue to live in L.A. with Stenson. “The plan is to stay in L.A. We still have a home in London, so eventually the plan is to be bi-costal, but who knows what the future holds. We are just taking it one day at a time.”
Don’t expect to see Nagra - who plays Dr. Neela Rasgotra - sporting a baby bump on the show. “There are no plans to write the pregnancy in the show,” she tells Us. Nagra also says she doesn’t plan on taking any time off work. “I feel like I will want to work, but who knows what I’ll feel like when the baby arrives,” she tells Us.
The last episode of the emergency room drama is scheduled to air in February 2009.

Police responded to a trespassing call a few weeks ago on the property of ‘Spider-Man’ actress Kirsten Dunst.
Sources tell ET that it is not the first time the trespasser has showed up at Dunst’s canyon home in the Hollywood Hills.
Dunst, who is a neighbor of “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest, was not at home when the trespasser was on her property, said the sources, who added that security had also been stepped up at the home of Dunst’s mother.
The actress’ mother lives in the Toluca Lake area north of Hollywood in the same neighborhood as Jennifer Love Hewitt and Hilary Duff.

Liz Lemon favors her right side. That’s because a faint scar runs across Tina Fey’s left cheek, the result of a violent cutting attack by a stranger when Fey was five. Her husband says, “It was in, like, the front yard of her house, and somebody who just came up, and she just thought somebody marked her with a pen.”
You can hardly see the scar in person. But I agree with Richmond that it makes Fey more lovely, like a hint of Marlene Dietrich noir glamour in a Preston Sturges heroine.
“That scar was fascinating to me,” Richmond recalls. “This is somebody who, no matter what it was, has gone through something. And I think it really informs the way she thinks about her life. When you have that kind of thing happen to you, that makes you scared of certain things, that makes you frightened of different things, your comedy comes out in a different kind of way, and it also makes you feel for people.”
I wonder how the scar affected Fey in high school. “She wasn’t Rocky Dennis developing a sense of humor because of her looks, like in Mask,” says Damian Holbrook, laughing. Liz Lemon’s blustery Republican boss, Jack Donaghy, played with comic genius by Alec Baldwin, tells Lemon, “I don’t know what happened in your life that caused you to develop a sense of humor as a coping mechanism. Maybe it was some sort of brace or corrective boot you wore during childhood, but in any case I’m glad you’re on my team.”
