Salma Hayek says she was considered deformed in Mexico.

Salma Hayek is stunned to find herself a sex symbol in the US, because growing up in Mexico she was considered “deformed”. The 40-year-old Frida star was deeply unhappy about her looks, because she was regarded the opposite of true beauty.

Pregnant Hayek reveals, “I have had my struggles. I am five foot, two inches and in Mexico it was important to be tall. I grew up in a world where beauty was not only tall, it was white and blonde with blue eyes. And I’m dark, have brown eyes and brown hair and I’m short.

People used to say that the short thing was a deformity. I was really upset about my height.”

I know she used to have those crazy eyebrows, but most people in Mexico are short, have brown hair and eyes and dark skin. Grow a pair, Hayek!

^ I didn’t realize that until after I posted the picture. lol

  4. Alix Says:

WTF is she talking about. She’s lying. Since when was it important to be tall in Mexico; in describing herself, didn’t she describe Mexicans. She just lost a fan!

  5. Fernandala Says:

Retarded. Put the fishing pole away.

  6. Anonymous Says:

90% of Mexico is what she justed described–short, brown hair, brown eyes. I guess she’s calling her whole country deformed. She’s a tool.

  7. frida Says:

Hmmm …why would she be “stunned”. Every photo of her is 80% tits.

She’s been selling her tits every since she came to the US. What a phony.

  8. Ana Says:

It’s obvious that none of you know anything about Mexico or the Mexican culture. Salma is absolutely correct about the racists attitudes in Mexico towards dark-skinned people. The majority of Mexicans, over 70%, are dark-skinned but most of the people that appear on television are light-skinned. There are certain areas of Mexico where there are a lot of light-skinned people with blue, green eyes but to ignore the rest of the country is racist.
Bolnde hair blue-eyed people are considered the epitome of beauty in Mexico while Indian looking people are considered ugly. That overt racism exists in every part of Mexican society and to deny it is ridicoulous. Salma never said she was deformed but that’s how the Mexican entertainment industry treated her.
I can’t even think about one Mexican celebrity that’s dark-skinned, o.k. maybe one, because most are White with colored eyes. Mexico is onw of the most racist countries in the world. I won’t even get inot how they treat Black people, another whole other sordid subject.

  9. Heath Says:

lolol um important to be tall in Mexico??? Since when are Mexicans tall?

  10. dat_dOod Says:

lmao..yo Selma is bad as fuck..dat woman is FOINE!!!….

  11. Ash Says:

Big deal if she just described Mexicans.

Americans are the most obese population in the entire world,
and and yet our standards of beauty are that women have to be thin and men have to be muscular.
How often do you see obesity being described as “beautiful” in American culture? Oh, that’s right… never.

  12. Anonymous Says:

The whole point IS that she described stereotypical Mexicans aka the mob and not those considered more beautiful. There, as anywhere, I suppose, they find the exotic beautiful and to them that is the light-skinned, TALL, and light-eyed and not the average rest. Makey sensey now? Good.

  13. Laci Says:

Ana. I had no idea that Mexico was so racist. I guess everyone else needs to get their facts straight.

  14. FATAL_BIPOLAR_HOTNESS Says:

    @ Laci,

Ana is right.. Not just Mexico, but South AMerica and other parts. Having color in those places is a death sentence..
People don’t know this, but there were half a million slaves in Mexico and most of them assimilated in the population. There are lots of dark Mexicans (Indians and Afro/Mixed). Those people are looked down upon and are always portrayed horribly in the media.

Though the majority o fthe population is dark, the only people you see on TV are either WHITE or very light (whatever the ethnicity).

A couple of years ago, the Mexican government issued stamps with BLACK FACES. It was so disgraceful.
But that is nothing new. Ever noticed how Puerto Ricans and Dominicans love to dye their hair BLOND?? It is such a shame.. However, I don’t think Salma had it that hard because she had money and I can just imagine her poor help.

Another thing, wealth is attributed by complexion..

Hey, did anyone notice Salma’s baby’s nose? That child’s nose is definitely a throwback from the slave trade.. This pick is not as good as another one I saw on some random site.. But it shows..

    ^^ A Throwback from the slave trade”^^
WTF is that supposed to mean??? All slaves have big noses, or maybe most slave were black with large noses??? I feel sorry for you racist pigs! Your racist and you don’t even know it. But you do show it with your ignorance.yes your IGNORANCE IS FATAL. YOU must be BIPOLAR. Hot you are not. Maybe you’ll be hot in hell…Your own living hell.

  16. Kari Says:

Ana - Thank you for helping these people become informed. It’s shocking how little people know about a culture of the country that we border on the south. I’m shocked at how little anonymous, Heath, Laci and Ash know. It’s really SAD! Oh, and Anonymous, keep your silly guesses to you and your ignorant kind. The population that immigrates to the U.S. are the poorest, most disenfranchised people in Mexico, which tend to be the darkest (more indigenous blood). The rest of Mexico which is not as dark and short and poor, have no need to immigrate to the U.S. (For a U.S. equivalent, consider how blacks in the ghetto are usually darker than blacks in management positions.) As Fat Bipolar points out, “Wealth is attributed by complexion.” No, Anonymous, it’s not the idea that what is unusual is more interesting or attractive, because dark and short ARE NOT the standard in Mexico BY FAR. Light skin, light eyes and height are not unusual in Mexico, as Ana points out. The reason these ideas exist is because anywhere that Western Europe landed, they left behind their ideal of beauty and brand of racism which conforms to a Western European standard - lighter is better, etc. Even though we probably can’t change it, at least we can be aware of it. I hope all those people here who didn’t understand Salma’s comments are smart enough to understand that Salma is MEXICAN, and if she says something you don’t understand, then YOU are the one who is confused or wrong, not her. Please educate yourselves. Sheesh!!

  17. Jack Says:

Kari hit on a fact. Most Americans equate Mexicans or anyone south of the border for that matter, with people who are part native american. You constantly hear reporters describe people as “hispanic looking”. Hispanic is an ethnicity and no one can really tell what language a person speaks by their looks. Hispanics are every race. Most Americans think all Mexicans look like the people we see working here but that is not the case in Mexico. Actually when someone is described in the news as “hispanic” they usually mean a mestizo or someone of mixed native american descent. But that would be considered racist so it will never happen. If you ask 100 Mexican who are obviously part indian what their race is you will get 90 of them responding white instead of native american.

  18. Alma Says:

Will I am from Mexico and where I am from the average girl is easily 5′6 are taller I am 5′9 and it really comes down to where you are from in Mexico…Your background plays a big role. I am Mexican with a European background and in Mexico it boils down to how you look and yes it is considered “Beautiful” to be tall and lightskin with light eyes. The reason people want to only think of Mexicans being dark and short is because all they see is what they have seen in the U.S. Ana you are right about the racism..but I think Americans are a bit more racist especially when I tell them I am Mexican and they want to tell me that i am not and that all mexicans are short fat and ugly…yes, that is what racist white american people have told me so PEOPLE GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT…anywhere and everywhere you go there is always going to be different looks to people at the end the majority of the people are mixed so get over it.

  19. Sally Says:

Hispanics are one of the most racist of ethnicities. I’m Hispanic, and I have suffered the most discrimination by the hands of my own raza! Like Salma, people considered me ugly because I was short (still am :-)), black hair, dark brown eyes, and olive skin. My sister was light-skinned, auburn hair, and brown eyes. People couldn’t believe we were sisters and referred to me as the ‘ugly’ one. It wasn’t until I went to college, that others regarded me as attractive. Even though my parents said I was beautiful, they were my parents. Parents are suppose to say that. But to hear other men and woman say that I was attractive was an eye-opener for me. You see, these people who told me this were white and Black people. The people who regarded me as ugly were Hispanic.
