So did you watch “The Riches” on Monday night?

If so…let’s discuss.

So I finally watched The Riches last night, (cause there are too many great shows on Monday – no time to fit them all in!).

FX has been heavily promoting it’s new show, The Riches starring Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver as the Malloy’s, a family of gypsies that live and travel around in a beaten up RV.  But you can’t let all this heavy promoting fool you – they did the same thing with Courteney Cox’ hugely dissappointing Dirt – and that show sucks.

So anyway – I decided to give The Riches a shot – because FX is the home of Nip/Tuck, and hello that is my favorite show (even though the last 2 seasons have kinda sucked).

I really wasn’t expectinig much – because I DID expect alot from Dirt, and well - Dirt just blows. And what I got from The Riches was – I liked it…. I think. It wasn’t bad, it wasn’t GREAT. One thing I will say – is it has potential.

The Malloy’s are a family of criminals (in one of the first scenes you see Minnie Driver in corn-rows leaving prison).  Their theives – all of them.  They con and steal for a living.

In the premiere episode, they are involved in an accident on the freeway that leaves a couple (the Riches) dead.  The Riches BMW crashes, and Mr. & Mrs. Rich are killed.  The Malloy family are at the scene, and Mr. Malloy (Eddie Izzard) starts going through the car, and Mr. Riches wallet.  He takes the money – he takes the keys to Mr. Riches just-built home.  The Malloy’s then push the crashed BMW (along with Mr. & Mrs. Rich) into a swamp – getting rid of the Riches altogether.

And the idea to actually BECOME the Riches is born.  They move into their house (which is practically a mansion), they assume their jobs…and their new life begins.

The problem I had with The Riches was that they are not very likeable.  It’s kind of hard to like them – when they’ve hidden the bodies of the Riches just to assume their lives.  I dunno..I think it could be good.  I just wasn’t completely blown away by the premiere.

What did you think?

I, too, watched it last night. I also, watched Dirt, which I have to say is getting better. Last night’s episode left me wanting more, so who knows? It may pick up. Anyway…The Riches…still riding the fence on that one. I like that they explore the youngest boy playing dressup, the rebel daughter and mother trying to find her way back into society. The oldest boy has made no impression on me as of yet. Future episodes look promising. If we can forget that they pushed the Riches into the swamp, then maybe it’d be more of a hit. But, the freaky picture the youngest drew on the wall of the accident is there…reminding them and the viewers everytime it crosses the screen. My ruling: Wait and See.

I’m with you; it wasn’t awful, it wasn’t great, it just was. I’ll give it a chance. I had a hard time seeing Eddie Izzard not in drag. And I expected it to be funny, because Eddie is hysterical. But not so much on this show.

And what did they do to Minnie Driver? I mean, she looked like death warmed over and taking those corn rows out didn’t even help…

I thought it was a great show. I really liked the first episode. Eddie Izzard was awesome, I would watch the show just for him. If you want to watch the second episode. Here is the link: http://tv.yahoo.com/the-riches/show/38155

I liked the show a lot and will watch it again. I loved Minnie Driver! It was a little hard to stomach the way that they actually came into their “riches” but it’s definitely different. And yes I agree that it’s a bit hard to like the main characters knowing who and what they really are but I still think this show is a winner.

it’s got some growing to do. but i think things will get better. and it’s awesome(the premise of the show). someone had to die.

I thought it was very good. it got under my skin and I felt tremendous sympathy for the characters. It is gritty and made me feel extremely uncomfortable and challenged. When Dahlia is administering mouth to mouth, while her husband is rifling through the pockets of Rich. Dahlia leads a desperate life, just out of prison, shooting up. Wade is experiencing a midlife crisis and the kids know no different than grifting, and now their parents are choosing somehting different… I thought it was very good and I cannot stop thinking about it.

you think the Riches is good and Dirt sucks?? I guess this is coming from the same gossip site that bashes Aniston and thinks Britney deserves all this publicity….

I watched it last night and I’m not sure if i like it. It had a lot of unnecessary violence and it kind of showed the south as a bunch of gypsy inbreeds. I dunno i might missed the point, i didnt watch all of it.

the show is impossible to follow and makes no sense
riches on the other hand i am sucked into

The riches sucks ass HARD! Ive never seen a show of more annoying individuals and personalities! This is clearly one of those imaginary fantasy lands were people are so stupid, they just make the main idiots seem smart. From what ive seen, its just a means of promoting that stereotypical white bred gypsy crap. Just think Paris Hilton meets spoiled southern country.
These are all people that should have been arrested before the season even began given the local depictions were not so ridiculously, unrealistically retarded. Between that and a series of meaningless plots and ploys, this show is too stupid for anyone of any realistic intelligence to pay any serious attention to.
