This is a very moving and sad article. I think it is great that she hepls to bring all of us over here a look at what a terrible life these people live. We all need to take a look at this and be thankful for what we have. Keep up the great work Angelina I support your work fully.
so many people bash this poor woman. i really admire what she’s doing. you could say she’s doing stuff for attention, but really, who would risk his/her life just to boost her public image? she could very easily just go kiss a baby and hop back on a plane, but she actually works in these places. she has a jesus complex for sure, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
I admire her work and her mission, she’s visiting these poor country while the rest of the shallow Hollywood is at the Oscars, i love her, beautiful person inside and out.
seems to me that the cameras are there in order to bring awareness to the issues that she’s taking part in. i think people should stop thinking angelina is like “every other person in hollywood” & accept the fact that she is actually concerned with other people besides herself.
I wish you guys read what Asian media reports on this news sarcastically. I found it very funny to see the contrast between the attitudes western media and non-western median towards Santa Angelina’s publicity. I dare not post such a message on Perezhilton.com because I know how crazy those people are about her charity.
One thing is quite significant is: Angelina is not the first Hollywood star who does charity works. There are Mia Farrow, Bono…etc. But only Angelina caused more skeptism than faith in the non-western world. Have you ever wondered why? I did.
I don’t think it’s because of this Jen-Brad-Angie saga. I guess it is because she uses too many security when she goes around the world, for example, in India, where she really pissed people off– even in this Newsweek interview, she claimed she didn’t but obviously it’s a trip arranged by UN so there must have been some staff assisting her on the ways, plus the Newsweek photographers and reporters. The fact that she used the entire Nambia government to help her “privacy” also made people wonder if she is using her UN embassader identity too much, just like she uses her UN priviledges to fast track her each adoption.
I comes from a third-world country. I don’t want her to come to my country. Because, she used more local resources than she brought in. For example, do you know the so-called “Maddox-Jolie” project is not going anywhere? But she claimed it’s because people “misplaced” her money. What money? The money didn’t come.
Anyway, I don’t want to get involved with this Brangelina dispute -who loves whom, who cheated on whom….I just think it’s interesting to see why her good deeds are so controversial just like her love affairs.
I am from the third world (Uganda) too. There have been many UN ambassadors, they come and go (usually of course they change nothing). Angelina approached the UN to be an ambassador at the time when her life was in crisis. So believe it or not, this is all to cultivate a new image. And whereas charity is good, I believe her involvement in the third world problems trivialises them and makes the people who matter escape while the spot light is on her. What changes in Darur when she hugs a child? Does the government start paying more attention? No one has any illusions that the Sudanese government can actually listen to Angelina Jolie (I mean come on be realistic, even if an official met her, he would be thinking of how quick he can get her into bed). I know I may sound ungrateful but please tell me, which country has changed ever since she visited it? Her intentions may be good. But her image and personal life is like a red herring that draws away attention from the real issues. May be people would take her more seriously if there were less cameras and she had nothing to gain like Publicty. I too was disappointed in how she used the Namibian government. Has Namibia changed an Iota ever since? Politicians are greedy, any one will do icluding Ms Jolie am sorry but I do not believe she has done any good for the past six years she has been a UN ambassador. It has benefitted her most. The problem with Americans and the western world is you used too much PR andyou believe everything preached by the media. Africa’s problems do not need Angelina Jolie to reduce them to trivia as she has done for the last six years. Wake up and the people who matter should step in and intervene Urgently!
To Lenny and Kiki from Asia- you two have so much to say against Angelina participating and attempting this movement, but you are each interested enough to look her up and comment on her. How about you put into consideration what it takes to go to these places and become what she has to at least try to make a difference? She is a super star what do you expect? Stop being so critical and re-direct your negative energy towards something more positive. What are you doing in your spare time, making a difference in people’s lives? She doesn’t have to do what she does, but she does it because she wants to. At least she isn’t wasting her time critiqueing the good deeds of the rich and famous. It’s not always in her control to keep her personal business (as far as Brad Pitt and her relationship with him) out of the tabloids. I can appreciate your perspectives but somethings are best unsaid. Let everyone else form their own opinions don’t try to sway them for the worse..

She’s the only woman in the world who can light up a place without make-up and fancy clothes on.
Angie is great! Faith in Angie!
