Mark Wahlberg and Joaquin Phoenix almost starred in Brokeback Mountain.
MARK WAHLBERG is glad filmmaker ANG LEE passed over him when he cast BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, because the Oscar nominee was “a little creeped out” at the prospect of having to play a gay cowboy.
The DEPARTED star reveals he and pal JOAQUIN PHOENIX were originally considered for the roles of ENNIS DEL MAR and JACK TWIST in the 2005 film – but both felt uncomfortable about sex act scenes in a tent.
Wahlberg explains, “I met with Ang Lee on that movie, I read 15 pages of the script and got a little creeped out. It was very graphic, descriptive – the spitting on the hand, getting ready to do the thing.
“I told Ang Lee, ‘I like you, you’re a talented guy, if you want to talk about it more…’ Thankfully, he didn’t.” The parts eventually went to JAKE GYLLENHAAL and HEATH LEDGER and, though Wahlberg feels it’s a film he must see, he has yet to watch Brokeback Mountain.
He adds, “I didn’t rush to see Brokeback, it’s just not my deal… Obviously, it was done in taste – look how it was received.”

Mark Wahlberg is far to be a good actor in my opinion, better he didn’t star in ‘Brokeback’. He would have ruined it.

JAKE GYLLENHAAL and HEATH LEDGER were PERFECT…Mark has hit the WALL big time…he is NO longer “cute” he will NEVER be a leading man in a movie…Leo DiCaprio outshined him in the Departed…I would take Jake OVER Mark ANY day…he doesn’t have the body anymore…he has TONS of wrinkles…BrokeBack MADE Jake a SUPERSTAR…he was a “star” but not a SUPERSTAR before Brokeback.

It all worked out best because I just can’t see those two in the roles anyway. The movie wouldn’t have been the same without Heath & Jake.

In my opinion, Mark looks similar to Heath (BOTH HOT!) and Joaquin (FLIPPIN’ GORGEOUS!) and Jake(HOT!) remind me somewhat of each other. I think they’re all wonderful actors, I think it would be best if all four of them starred in the movie. Like a “Orgy-Back Mountain” thing going on… I would have LOVED that. =]]

Whats with all the Hater-ade on Mark Whalberg…I agree…..If I was a actor I personally would not do a gay role. In my personal beliefs it is wrong and you wouldnt catch me dead acting homosexual. Call me a homophobe or whatever you want, If I was an actor and the role called for something I personally had a problem with I sure as hell wouldnt take the role, he didnt insult the director, he politely said “Hey, this isnt my thing, so I’m gonna go now….ok” Im done spilling my beans, and dont worry I wont check back to see if anyone comments on my comment.
