Tyra Banks stunned by ‘meanness’ over swimsuit pictures.

Tyra Banks, who has gained weight since her days strutting the catwalk, says she was upset when unflattering photos showing her in a one-piece bathing suit were mocked on the Internet.
“It was such a strange meanness and rejoicing that people had when thinking that was what my body looked like. It was really hurtful to me,” the 33-year-old talk-show host says in an interview in the February 5 issue of People magazine.
The photos show Banks on a beach during a recent trip to Sydney, Australia. They had popped up earlier this month on a celebrity gossip Web site with the not-so-nice headline: “Tyra Banks is Fat.”
Banks, who hosts the syndicated “The Tyra Banks Show” and the CW network’s “America’s Next Top Model,” tells the magazine she weighs 161 pounds and has fluctuated from 148 pounds to 162 pounds, depending on how well she’s taking care of herself, since retiring from modeling in 2005.
“I don’t want to sit in front of you and be soap-boxy and fake and say, ‘I love myself, I’m beautiful, it’s great,’ ” says Banks, who is 5 feet 10 inches tall. “I still feel hot, but every day is different. It’s when I put on the jeans that used to fit a year ago and don’t fit now and give me the muffin top, that’s when I say, ‘Damn!’ ”
In other words, yes, she has put on weight, though not nearly as much as recent tabloid stories have suggested.
Banks says “I’m not the healthiest eater” and isn’t required to “live up to that model standard anymore.”
“I’ve made millions of dollars with the body I have, so where’s the pain in that?” she says. “If I was in pain, I would have dieted. The pain is not there — the pain is someone printing a picture of me and saying those (horrible) things.”

I love that she is embracing her body - no matter what shape. Things like this should be given more attention than they do (I mean - loving a full figure)
But at the same time, she knows what the modeling industry is all about - beautiful, thin women - inherently they will be worshiped and admired for their physical features. On some level she has to understand that the rest of us ‘normal’ women rejoice in the fact that she succombs to fat just like the rest of us. It is reassuring for us - since we are bombarded by skeletors left & right.
Of course I do think that calling her fat was mean - but it was bound to happen, there are just mean/spiteful/jealous people out there that will celebrate when something ‘negative’ happens to someone else.
Tyra is such a beautiful woman - super slender or with a fuller figure. As a culture, we’d be better off giving more attention to confident women like her, maybe there would be less super skinny wannabe’s out there….

yeah, i agree on some levels GirlGlobal, but if you think about it, she shouldn’t be judging for America’s Next Top Model, agreeing (not agreeing out loud, but still not disagreeing) with the other judges when they tell someone that they don’t have the “right body” for the industry (this past season to Anchal).
she shouldn’t be the spokesperson for a show like this.

Well, according to a BMI she’s normal weight for someone who is 5′10. Just goes to show you how ridiculously underweight you have to be in the modeling profession

as much as tyra can be innocent and cute, she can be mean and judgemental. i have seen this from her many times. i believe in Karma, and it has come back to bite her in her not so size two ass, although i tend to like the woman, and think she is beautiful. she needs to be a bit more humble, and i think this is what has taken place. i wish her well.

To all the superficial people out there you guys need to stop looking at who is not sexy enough because they’re fat. I don’t think Tyra is a pig so that person that said ” Oink! Oink!”, sorry but if we have to be pigs to stay healthy then so be it cause we gonna be benefitting a longer life expectancy. I’m 12 stone (168 lbs) and I’m proud of it, and I’m proud of her not endorsing the Oh so “Skinny” look that you need to have to be classed as sexy.
She looks good, She looks beatuiful and there’s brothers out there that like us sisters thick, so to hell with the rest of the world everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

i think tyra is just being true to herself.lets admit it,not everyone can be a supermodel.and deffinetly we all can’t have a body like a supermodel.It mentaining a body that she had when she used to model must be hard.Now that she retired,why the hell would she keep her weight when she was a model just to please everybody??she owes everything she accopmlished because she sacrificed not eating what she wants when she wants it.She is a smart woman and i think she is old enough to know whats best for her.So to all those who mocks her and say mean stuff please grow up..

I think she deserves to relax and eat and enjoy herself. She looks great. I dont see anything wrong with her. She still looks good for a women her age. She looks young and is active. Its just people in the media want to make money anyway they can and people eat it up.

Most people look at Tyra and feel that her life is easy.But their are people out there trying to take her down.She has made a differents in other people lives.She cares about people, she goes out her way, to save young girls, who put thier lives in danger. I wish I could be as confident as Tyra in myself, it is that which is truly attractive. I used to weight about 180lbs and now am about 145lbs. I can’t deny I want to lose more weight and conform to the usual skinny is pretty. If more role models like Tyra were out there, maybe me and other teenage girls wouldn’t feel like this.
