Ewan McGregor Nearly Used Heroin for ‘Trainspotting’
Ewan McGregor considered getting high on heroin as research for his role in cult drug movie Trainspotting, as long as screenwriter John Hodge, a doctor, was present. The Scottish movie star was struggling to capture the essence of his junkie character Mark Renton and thought he’d have more luck if he tried the drug.
He says, “I had this idea that it would be O.K. because John is a doctor, so I thought he could administer it in a hotel room somewhere so we didn’t OD (overdose) and die. In my fantasy, I was going to do it with (director) Danny (Boyle).”
That movie is so nasty.

What an idiot, yeah, let’s try a dangerous, addictive, illegal drug, just to get the part right. Serves him right if he died

That movie was fantastic, true to life and what drugs really do to people, a must see.

I don’t know if I would say the movie is fantastic… I seriously have nightmares about some of those scenes… that whole baby on the ceiling… YIKES!! I much prefer a romantic comedy…who likes reality anyway.
