Victims’ Families Outraged Over O.J. Book
O.J. Simpson’s new book – a hypothetical look at the 1994 murders of his ex-wife and her friend – and an upcoming TV interview are causing cries of protest from the victims’ families.
The book, titled O.J. Simpson: If I Did It, Here’s How it Happened, is due Nov. 30, and a two-part interview with Simpson, 59, will air on FOX on Nov. 27 and 29.
Denise Brown, the sister of Simpson’s slain ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, issued a statement accusing publisher Judith Regan of “promoting the wrongdoing of criminals,” The New York Times reports.
And Fred Goldman, the father of Nicole’s friend Ron Goldman, said on Thursday’s Good Morning America that Simpson “destroyed my son and took from my family Ron’s life and future. And for that I’ll hate him always and find him despicable.”
Although Simpson does not in the book admit that he committed the double murder, Regan tells the Times, “In my view, this is his confession.”
On Oct. 3, 1995, Simpson was acquitted of the two murders following a criminal trial in Los Angeles. On Feb. 4, 1997, however, a civil jury found him liable for the two deaths. He still owes the victims’ families more than $33.5 million.
