Brad Pitt picked up a best-acting award for his starring role in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford — a year after the film was released and a year after he won the accolade, the Associated Press reports.
“You can run but you can’t hide,” Pitt, 44, joked as he belatedly accepted the honor.
The actor nabbed the prize at the opening ceremony of the Venice Film Festival on Wednesday, as his latest film, Burn After Reading, debuted.
Burn After Reading, which is in contention for the festival’s top prize, also stars George Clooney, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton. It is written and directed by the Coen Brothers.
At a press conference, Pitt was asked if it’s better to win an Oscar or fall in love with a beautiful woman.
“Brad, don’t answer that,” Clooney quipped.
Clooney was then asked if he has any plans to settle down and have kids himself.
“I am so surprised to hear that question,” he joked. “That is honestly the first time I’ve been asked that question. I am getting married and having children today. Brad?”
Replied Pitt, “And until then I’ll be sharing mine with him. I’ll have two more by next year.”
In fact, the Venice Film Festival is Pitt’s first public appearance since Angelina Jolie gave birth to their twins. On Tuesday night, he attended a Not On Our Watch fundraiser at Venice’s Giudecca island.
